Global & European setting
Over the past few years an international Barcode of Life Initiative (BOLI)
has developed in which major barcoding campaigns such as
ABBI, FISH-BOL, or
All-Leps, operate in concert with major facilities such as the Canadian
Centre for DNA barcoding CCDB or the
global virtual DNA barcode assembly workbench
BOLD, and under significant coordination, standardization and support from
the Consortium for the Barcode of Life, CBOL. The largest DNA
barcoding project so far is iBOL
aiming at barcoding 5M specimens in 5 years, starting in 2009, in which The
Netherlands plays an important role in coordinating/constituting one of iBOL’s
Central Nodes through ECBOL.
As significant achievement we can announce that The Netherlands will develop & host the European mirror of BOLD.
